Overview
The role
This position combines ornithological fieldwork, ecological assessment, report writing and liaison
with the authorities. A key part of the role is independently carrying out bird surveys for wind energy
projects, including the accurate recording, documentation and assessment of field data. Depending
on your experience, you may also undertake surveys of other relevant species groups. Basic
knowledge or practical experience of bats, amphibians or other animal groups commonly covered by
ecological surveys is particularly welcome. Experience in biotope and habitat mapping would be an
advantage.
Using the field survey results and other project data, you will independently prepare ecological
reports and expert assessments. You will take professional responsibility for the surveys and
assessments you carry out, as well as for the technical quality and timely completion of the reports
under your responsibility.
An important part of your work will involve direct technical dialogue with the relevant Hungarian
authorities. You will discuss nature conservation matters, explain survey findings and assessments,
and provide the technical justification for your reports throughout the permitting process. Where
required, you will also liaise with landowners, municipalities and other project stakeholders
Your qualifications and experience
You hold a university degree in biology, ecology, nature conservation or a related field, together with
relevant professional experience in applied nature conservation and permitting procedures. You
must hold a valid Hungarian nature conservation expert licence in the field of Élővilágvédelem
(protection of fauna and flora), or be able to demonstrate that you meet the legal requirements to
obtain this licence before starting work.
You have a strong knowledge of Central European birds and hands-on experience conducting
ornithological surveys independently. You must be confident identifying relevant bird species in the
field and be skilled in planning and conducting bird surveys, accurately documenting findings and
analysing the results. You can independently write ecological reports and expert assessments,
evaluate survey findings and present clear, well-supported conclusions. Experience with wind energy
projects and their ecological challenges is particularly welcome. A basic technical understanding of
wind turbines and infrastructure projects is required.
